FAQs: Teenage & Adult Dog Manners Classes
1. What age is this class for?
Teenage classes are for dogs around 5–18 months. Adult manners classes are for dogs over 18 months.
2. Is my dog too old to learn?
Never! Dogs of all ages can learn new skills and improve behaviour.
3. Do we need previous training experience?
No—these classes are designed for beginners as well as dogs who need a refresher.
4. What will my dog learn?
Everyday manners like polite greetings, walking nicely on lead, coming when called, settling calmly, self-control, and focus around distractions.
5. Will the class help with problem behaviours?
Yes—we address common issues like pulling, jumping up, ignoring cues, and over-excitement. For more serious behavioural concerns, private training may be recommended.
6. Will the dogs interact or play together?
Not usually Controlled socialisation is built into the training.
7. How long are the classes and how many sessions?
Typically 6 minutes, once a week for 6 weeks.
8. What should I bring?
A flat collar or harness, lead (no retractables), lots of tasty treats, a toy, a mat or old towel and chair for you.
9. How many dogs are in a class?
Small group sizes (often 2-4 dogs) so you and your dog get personal guidance.
10. Can the whole family join in?
Yes—family members are welcome. It helps if everyone is on the same page with training.
11. What type of training do you use?
Positive reinforcement—rewarding the behaviours you want with treats, toys, and praise with lots of fun games. No force or punishment.
12. Do we need to practice at home?
Absolutely! Short, fun practice at home between classes is key to success.
13. My dog is reactive / nervous / overly excitable—can they join?
Yes, as long as your dog can work safely around others. If your dog struggles, a one-to-one class first might be beneficial.
14. What happens after this course?
You can move on to more advanced training, trick classes, or activities like agility, tricks, or rally obedience.
15. Will one course “fix” my dog?
Training is a lifelong process. The course gives you tools and foundations to continue building good manners at home.
